Mischief’s most adventurous project for reaching rural areas of Scotland has been their surprise statue tour. This featured a team of builders supporting Irana Frump and Councillor Frank Patterson in their attempts to celebrate legendary Tango Superstar Carlos Gardel from Orkney to Stranraer.

The team arrive and erect a full sized statue to Carlos while Irana and Councillor Patterson go walkabout to meet locals and invite them to the grand unveiling. Here the story of Carlos’ visit to the village in 1930 is recounted, and it is explained that (just like Carlos) the statue can only remain for 90 minutes.

Everybody gets their photo taken with the glamorous entourage and statue, before it is dismantled and the visitors bid farewell, leaving only romantic memories and a fine local story. Carlos was celebrated in 25 villages, and films and photos of the tour are available at www.carlosgardelinscotland.com

Of course, if other rural regions would like us to investigate the possibility that Carlos toured their area in 1930, we would be more than happy to do so.
