Whistler's Mother

ImageWhen the famous painting was on loan to Glasgow for its 'James Whistler Festival' the organisers wanted to make it a focus of their marketing campaign and asked Mischief La-Bas to become involved in reaching the public directly. The result was not only a live recreation of the figure for press photo shoots, but also the creation of a whole gang of Whistler's Mothers who were sited in shop windows and on the streets not only in Glasgow, but in Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Aberdeen. The public were invited to spot the 'Mothers' as a 'Have you seen my Mum?' campaign, and report sightings to Museum Guard characters and even 'James Whistler' himself, in return for (you guessed it) a plastic whistle.

What People Say About Us

‘Thanks for the Mischief caused at T in the Park this year. I really enjoyed all the troupes I saw out and about – Middle Aged Campers, Crack Babies, Elvis’s etc, I only wished I’d seen more! It was a real pleasure working with you and really useful to realise that you were just getting on with it, enjoying it and generally causing chaos. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as everyone enjoyed your shows and I hope that we work together again. I will definitely get in touch if any other festival work comes my way as far as co-ordinating walkabout goes.’ Hope we all meet again soon, All the best
